AAHKS Resident Arthroplasty Course
Nov. 5-6, 2026
About the Resident Arthroplasty Course
Sponsored by AAHKS, the 2026 Resident Arthroplasty Course will take place Nov. 5-6, 2026. The hands-on bioskills Lab Course and Resident & Student Research Symposium take place on Thursday, Nov. 5, and the didactic Arthroplasty Course session takes place on Friday, Nov. 6. The Course is specifically designed for PGY3/PGY4 orthopaedic surgery residents; however, all residents who feel they may benefit from this Course are welcome to apply and may be invited to attend if space is available.
The 2026 application period will open in early May.
The Resident Arthroplasty Course provides residents with the opportunity to learn the latest information regarding total joint arthroplasty from nationally renowned experts. It includes both large- and small-group sessions where surgical techniques and cases will be reviewed, allowing significant interaction with the faculty. A maximum of 150 residents from the United States and Canada will be eligible to participate in this learning opportunity.
The 2026 Resident Course agendas are in development. For last year’s topics, view the 2025 Resident Course Agenda and 2025 Resident Lab Course Agenda.
About the Lab Course
The Lab Course begins with two morning bioskills sessions (residents will be assigned to attend one session), pairing residents with orthopaedic faculty from around the country for intimate, hands-on learning in primary hip, primary knee and cementing techniques. Following the lab portion, residents will attend a Resident & Student Symposium featuring highly rated research presentations by medical students, orthopaedic residents and fellows. Attendees are also invited to attend the Young Arthroplasty Group’s (YAG) Educational Panel after the Symposium and the YAG social event that evening.
About the Resident & Student Research Symposium
This Symposium features top-rated research from students, residents and postdocs, giving arthroplasty surgeons in training the opportunity to present at the podium before an audience of their peers. Approximately ten studies are selected from among the Top 100 Posters and invited to present at the Symposium. The session will be moderated by current and former leadership of the AAHKS Young Arthroplasty Group (YAG) committee, who will rate each presentation. The $250 “Resident & Student Research Award” will be given to the highest scoring presentation; the award is presented on Saturday during the General Session.
Please Note: The AAOS Orthopaedic In-Training Examination® (OITE) testing window is Oct. 30-Nov. 8, 2026, AAHKS will not be administering the OITE exam in Dallas. Accepted residents must make arrangements to take the OITE on a day that does not conflict with the AAHKS Annual Meeting. Residency programs should plan on scheduling the examination as they have done in the past: selecting a single, primary testing date and an additional back-up day for scheduling conflicts and unanticipated cancellations.
