AAHKS Comments on Proposed LCD Change for CAN for TKA
Last week AAHKS provided comments to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on a proposed new Local Coverage Determination (LCD) for joint arthroplasty by CGS, the Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) for Part A and B in Ohio and Kentucky. This proposal intends to cease payments for computer-assisted navigation (CAN), CPT 20985, once it is finalized. Our comments questioned the lack of qualification for statements in the LCD and stated our lack of support for the proposal to consider CAN and robotics to be medically unnecessary and ineligible for separate payment for TJA.
